Tune in to Channel 20 at 7:00 p.m. on Monday May 7 when CMAP presents live coverage of the 2012 Panetta Institute Lecture, held at the Monterey Conference Center Steinbeck Forum.

Continuing with the theme Revolutions of the 21st Century: Changing Our Way of Life, this third forum spotlights the presidency and features two award-winning authors as guests, Michael Beschloss and Douglas Brinkley.

"The presidency of the United States is the most powerful elected office in the world," said Panetta Institute director Sylvia M. Panetta. "But it is an office facing many challenges and changes. How has the office evolved since its creation by the founders, and what can we learn from history to assist in our consideration of today's leadership at the most important level? We'll ask these questions to two of the nation's leading presidential historians."

The event will be moderated by Judy Woodruff, a broadcast journalist with more than three decades of experience covering the White House. The Lecture Series invites hundreds of Central Coast high school and college students to participate in an afternoon session with the guests. The evening event includes questions from the audience.

Beschloss, called the nation's leading presidential historian, is author of 10 books, serves as presidential historian of NBC News and appears regularly on other news programs. His books have focused on Presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, and he received an Emmy for creating the Discovery Channel series "Decisions That Shook the World."

Brinkley, professor at Rice University and a prolific and acclaimed historian, writer and editor, is author of more than 20 books. He has written on the presidencies of Theodore Roosevelt, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, and six of his award-winning books have been selected as New York Times Notable Books of the Year.

CMAP continues a ten-year tradition delivering this acclaimed program featuring nationally known leaders, policy experts and journalists.

 

Thursday May 3rd, is CMAP's Annual Community Night and Member Event. It will be a night not to be missed. We will have live music, food, drinks, video screenings, member awards and hot raffle items like iPods and CMAP gear. We will also have our mobile studio set up to show you how to run a live green screen production. Please join us from 6PM to 8PM at 60 Fourth Street in Downtown Gilroy.
